Position Summary:

The focus of this position is working with and through others, building and maintaining relationships, and working closely and accurately within established guidelines. There is a need for an effective communicator, someone who is able to stimulate and motivate others while being aware of and responsive to their needs and concerns. There will be many different people to meet and work with. The person in this position must be friendly and genuinely interested in the business, agenda, and needs of others, including the company, its management, the team, the company's customers, or all of the above. A persuasive, teaching style of communication is required to communicate the company's policies, programs, and systems. A faster-than-average pace will be the norm for this position. Detail work is a major focus of the job, and those details need to be handled quickly, correctly, and efficiently. This portion of the work will often focus on relationships with others; correct handling of details dealing with others is necessary to maintain and grow relationships. If the job involves managing others, following up carefully, closely, and cheerfully is required to ensure both correct work and maintenance of the relationships. Necessary corrections must be made in a constructive, supportive manner. As time is usually a factor, the work must be done on time, as well as correctly. In general, this is a position where guidelines, structure, and established policies must be followed fairly closely, while working with and for others.

Required Job Functions:

1. Perform all duties and responsibilities with a positive attitude, demonstrates impeccable
ethics and integrity.

2. Plans, develops, organizes, implements and directs group and individual activities (including
preparation and clean up) inside and outside the residence ensuring the programming
meets the mental, physical, spiritual and social needs of the Residents in the Life Stories
Neighborhood.

3. Establishes open lines of communication with the Residents’ families in order to gain a
better understanding of the resident’s emotional, spiritual and social needs which lead to the
developments and implementation of appropriate 1-1 programming.

4. Assures activities are offered or available to be offered 24/hours per day and geared for the
cognitively impaired residents whose attention span may be less than 20 minutes.

5. Designs and posts a monthly activity calendar and dailies on the ICC server by the 28th of
each month.

6. Records and maintains activity progress notes as well as a record of Resident activities and
attendance.

7. Arranges transportation and escorts for access to the community and outside activities.

8. Ensures Life Stories Neighborhood and team members operate in accordance with all ICC
policies and procedures.

9. Ensures that Resident Life Story is completed and utilized according to ICC standards, as
well as realizing its value as an essential tool or the development of the Life Stories monthly
calendar and daily programming.

10. Assess and evaluates and make recommendations concerning placement in or out of Life
Stories.

11. Participates with team in the completion of the resident initial assessment and then quarterly
reviews thereafter.

12. Participates with team in the development of the Resident Initial Support plan and then
review on an annual basis, or when a significant change occurs.

13. Reviews complaints and grievances in a timely manner and completed an investigation
along with the Resident Wellness Director and Executive Operations Officer in order to
develop a plan of action or resolution.

14. Orients team members to activities offered in the Life Stories Program.

15. Manages and evaluates team members, providing performance counseling and additional
training as needed.

16. Determines adequate staffing needs and develops a work schedule in conjunction with the
Resident Wellness Director.

17. Interviews, selects and evaluates team members.

18. Willing and able to become credentialed to be an Alzheimer’s Association Support Group
Facilitator

19. Organizes and maintains a volunteer program.

20. Contributes to the monthly residence newsletter.

21. Maintains departmental budgets.

22. Develops and maintains good community relations.

23. Must be adaptable, teachable and flexible in tasks and have exceptional time management
and organizational skills.

24. Must be a team player and have the ability to mentor and coach other residence team
members.

25. Self-motivated, proactive and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-
paced environment.

26. Participates in the manager-on-duty program, to encompass working as a direct care worker
when the needs of the community require such.

27. Responds to Residents' and family requests.

28. Respects Residents’ rights, privacy and dignity.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The ability to develop, organize and implement an activities program that enhances the lives of residents in the Life Stories Program is required. The ability to direct program team members is required. Should have knowledge of therapeutic recreational techniques. Must be able to interact positively with outside organizations and develop good community relations. Creativity and motivational skills are essential. The ability to communicate
effectively in English both orally and in writing is necessary. The ability to exercise good judgment and make confident ethical decisions is essential. Must be able to effectively manage time in order to complete multiple projects/tasks. Must possess computer skills. May require frequent lifting, bending, stretching, and standing for long periods of time.

Education
A bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistant, or LPN is
preferred. High school diploma or GED is required.

Experience
A minimum of one year of experience in the recreational or occupational therapy assistant
field or a minimum of three years experience providing direct care required. Consideration
will be given to candidates with experience with direct care responsibilities in special needs
population, developmental or educational field.

Certificates/Licenses

CTRS / COTA / LPN preferred. A valid driver's license is required with no more than two moving violations in a three-year period as determined by insurance industry standards.
